So don't ask me how this came up but he was talking about how there are tribal wars in Africa right now where thousands of people are being killed (two tribes killing each other) and how Americans have an obligation to go over there and stop the killing.
I told him that I didn't agree with him. I think we should stay out of it and let these people work it out on their own because evolutionarily speaking it's counterproductive. You should have seen his reaction. 'Thats disgusting! Are you even listening to what youre saying thats just disgusting..bla, bla, bla'
So I don't know I've thought about it a bit and I've still come up with the same conclusion. Taking action in stopping this fighting against the will of these people will ensure that 1) they live to reproduce and teach their children the same thing and 2) that we will have the same problem again, and again, and again until they either learn their lesson and stop fighting or kill themselves out of the our gene pool.
So what do you guys think, should we go help them or let them kill themselves???

Wow, Traveler, Merlin and I could have a field day with this one!

I actually agree somewhat with you, Veronique.

A. It's not our fight to referee. How can a superpower possibly pick a side in a tribal fight and expect the outcome to be positive? That's like asking a Fortune 500 CEO to take sides with a janitor who's quarelling with another janitor. (no offense to janitors. Or CEOs for that matter!) Bottome line: Let their government hash it out.

B. No offense to the person having the discussion with you, but.... ARE THEY FOR REAL?? WE "HAVE AN OBLIGATION"???!! Have they heard of such a thing as 09-11-01 or terrorism? How about child abuse, domestic violence, murder, rape, drug addiction, poverty, uncle abuse?? All these things are very real right here in the U.S.! I would like to see our government attack these issues before some damn tribal dispute in Gowanda or Swahililand or wherever! Sorry, but there is such a thing (or at least there should be) as taking care of one's own!

C. That's just crazy talk!

D. There's more important things to worry about. Like who has the best sub sandwiches on the East side.

Sorry to be an a$$. But that's weird!!

lol
1) Who in the he11 rides zebras???
2) I don't think he meant to pick sides but to seperate them or something...I'm not sure
3) Youre right we have a lot better things to worry about than counterproductive activities such as ensuring the survival of war making peoples

Why is it that the we always have an "obligation" to help everyone. I mean, there are like 100 other industrialized nations (or more) that should take on some "obligation".

The United States is not the World Police. We really don't owe anything to anyone, most owe us actually.
