As most of you know, I love Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair Flats. Harsens, Russell, Dickinson, and all the surrounding islands within the area. It's my passion and I am most happy when I am out there living it through boating, friends and family. For several years now it has been my dream to have a cottage out there somewhere. Some of you may know that Steph's grandfather (recently passed) owned a cottage out on the Sni Bora, and we just got back from putting him to rest. Following that we went to her families house and browsed through hundreds of pictures of him and family. Many of which were taken out at the cabin all those years ago. Well this only fueled my dream of something out there. Looking through the years of fun in the sun with family and friends was awesome.

Steph's grandparents seemed the type to contently offer a stay out there to anyone and everyone with open arms. That is how we would be. Come on over. Tie your boat up to the piling. Let's have a bonfire and food. Man, that would be the life. Such great times out on the island. I have a dream, and that is to live that life out there myself. It's a dream. You gotta have them. May not ever live to get a cottage of our own, but it's the dream.

Live life safe and well. Have fun. Life is short. Live for your dreams.

I like the way you think Bill!

You know what they say... Aim high, and eventually you'll probably get what you want. Aim low, and you'll hit the mark every time.

That reminds me of a little saying I have for Heather, it goes like this,

Shoot for the moon, if you miss you'll land among the stars.

it is also my dream to one day build on one of the many Islands out there. All I need to do is get off my butt and start looking around for one.

I love this post, and this site. Boaters all have a similar passion; having fun and enjoying life to the fullest with family and friends, boats, and spending time on the water. I have a dream of having a place in FL and MI so we can do all of that year round.

Cheers to our dreams!!

( I'm a little emointional now cause I only have 2 week-ends left in Aug to boat then fall is here, lets hope for a pleasant Sep/Oct!!! )

I saw a private property on the North channel online, had a small cottage, 200 feet of sea wall on each side for 50 grand last winter. I keep telling the wife forget a bigger boat keep the 22 footer and have our own place out there. I seem to be losing that battle but she has to keep hearing me say I wish we had our own cottage out there.
It was rustic, no access during ice season but I would still rather go with a property and keep our current boat than all the depreciation of a bigger cruiser.

I own Life on the Flats. Great book. I have not yet read "A Kid" book. I know you have mentioned it before and I have seen it online before. Just haven't found it around town. The Riverside shop on Harsens carries it. I just haven't cought it when it's in stock. I will one of these days.

I obviously spent a lot of time on the lake growing up, but when I was in my late teens/early 20's, I would go and sit at my favorite spot on Jefferson in Grosse Pointe and look out at the lake and dream of being out there on my own boat some day. One of these days we'll have that cottage, we can make it happen.

Thanks Billy, I thought I was done with the tears...lol

I totally get this odd but wonderful feeling when we are in the flats.
So, I totally understand the feelings posted here.
There's something, exciting, yet peaceful about traversing the flats....while at the same time
you really stop and appreciate the natural beauty.
Totally get this

(I thought I was just being an emotional female, glad to see others feel the same way)
