Coming back to the launch last night at 8:55pm (9:00pm check in time for the tournament I was fishing) we were headed west to the mouth of the Clinton River. Approaching from the south was a (and I am guessing here) 28 foot "Pachanga like" boat heading north. White with yellow and orange or red graphics on it. Two guys aboard.

Both boats travelling at a high rate of speed. The lake was calm, light winds, plenty of daylight left and good visibility. Surprisingly not much traffic in the area around the mouth of the river. Most of the tournament boats were already at the launch and checked in. We were close to being late and were pushing it but safely and within time to get back.

The captain of the northbound vessel was south of the bouys at the river mouth and we were east of the bouys (on the south side of them). The vessel did not stand down to allow our right of way. He kept the throttle up to try and get through the area before us intentionally and we had to slow down a bit and eat his wake (read jump at a high rate of speed which results in a not so pleasant landing @ 60+mph). The impact of the landing broke a spinning reel of mine and unstrapped the rods from the front deck on the port side of the boat almost causing them to launch overboard. This would have resulted in a loss of approximately $2500 worth of rods/reels/baits. As it was the reel that was broken cost $100. Now I must add that the impact was hard enough to fracture the main aluminum casting of the reel body. I havent inspected the rest of my rods and reels to see if any other damage occured. I did manage to save the rods from the front deck from falling overboard (by standing and reaching for the rod tips as we were passing across the other side of his wake. If wee hadnt slowed down there would have been an accident. All he had to do was either swing wide to the east and go around the bouys (and behind us) but I guess he felt he was more important than our lives.

The a$$clown in the 28 footer has the audacity to flip us off as he races around the point of the mouth of the river, through the bouys I might add. Which with no traffic isnt bad becaus ein the direction they were heading ANY AND ALL boats heading into teh river had the right of way. The boat heads towards BelMar/Blue Lagoon. I was hoping (and praying) that he was going to circle around and head to the little cut to get into the Clinton River and I would have been waiting for him on the dock.

So if it was any member here that lurks or posts. Be forewarned I know what your boat looks like and I will find you and educate you as to the proper ways of the water. If not, I will certainly not hesitate to call the authorities when I see you again. I do frequent many of the marinas in that area while fishing. It will give me plenty of time to find your boat in the water. In the event you rack store your boat, trust me I am on the lake more than most and I will get your MC #'s and the name on your transom. As it stands now, after telling the story to a few friends at the weigh-in of the tournament, you now have about 5 or 6 boats looking for you.

Ok I feel better, but just remember....I dont forget. My advice? Learn how to drive before you kill someone or someone kills you.

Glad you're okay, but that sounds damn frustrating!

Why is it so many can never be bothered to consider the "other guy" in any situation???

I was a little surprised at the radio traffic on ch69 over the weekend. There were 2 guys (they didn't identify themselves) bragging about swamping fishing boats. Of course they were doing it with lots of f-bombs, just to show how grown up and smart they were.

Mini....so sorry that happened...and likely will happen again...people can be nuts....thats scary stuff.
as for me..Im a chicken...I will always stand down even if I have the right of way.
I think the mentality is...bigger goes first.
I'm not going to try and fight that or try to educate an azzclown.
Thanks to our first summer on the lake...and being swamped by a big cruiser coming up from behind and so close I could see his sideburns......

and being on the dinghy....omg...it wasnt just cruisers...it was fishing boats.
If Im gonna lose anyways....I'd rather take the time and stand down if I see the situation ahead.

Sorry about your equipment too

The thing is...if a person would do this and then brag on the radio about it (like stodge heard)
or..flip you off as they swamp you...there is NO winning that situation....only thing that might set them straight is a big juicy ticket.

At least when the fishermen buzzed me..they were smiling and waving ! hehehe

I find myself doing that more and more. I worry too much about the other guy knowing the rules and do not want to test it.

Sorry to hear Mini...

PD, when I had my boat I would always do the same.... just not worth it.

Well it was worth it to get to the ramp in time so i would not be disqualified in the tournament.

If it wasnt a tournament I would have stopped dead and mooned the idiot.

Sunday Debi and I were heading back to MacRay's from Metro and this A$$clown in a blue and white boat name - INCOGNITO - passes us on the port side about 30 freakin' feet away on an angle cutting me off and within a few feet is directly in front of us going on an angle... WTF??? Is the lake that small?

Of course I hit the button that says "HORN" ....
(for those that have heard it, you get it...)

I know there has been talk of inconsiderate/un-safe boaters/boating in the past, with threats and promises of getting MC's and reporting. But has anyone actually done this and followed it up to see if the authorities did anything about it.....? Let alone done anything personally to repay the acts....?

we have peeps blowing by our seawall daily....crafts of all sizes.
there really isn't much you can do about it.
Im not gonna take pics and post or call...unless they were to do damage...then I'd be PO'ed.
otherwise....come on now....peeps are gonna play and get excited...sometimes they forget or dont know...
the good thing is..they usually wise up.

however...if I had children or dogs out in the water and someone was too close and too fast...
I'd be freaked out too.
we have the fair haven launch nearby and some of these peeps must be weekend warriors or first time boaters/riders...etc

they can actually be pretty entertaining at times....especially the riders screaming...hehehehe

but I'd never laugh at something unsafe.

plus...the water is UP this year ! and that helps seawalls too !

like I tell first time visitors before they get here...

don't be shocked...you sometimes put up with alot of things to have the privledge of being close or on the water.

In my book...as long as no one gets hurt and nothing is intentionally damaged...

It's all good
