Me too but last week!!
Bought a Briggs&Stratton 5hp with 3gal tank from Sams for $650. Damn good motor so far. Gets my 10' Zodiac up on plane and fast enough for me! Not as fancy as a Merc but for the price I'm not complaining! And its a four stroke!

I wanted a fourstroke but they were 35 lbs heavier than the 2 stroke.

I was thinking about buying a Yamaha but the shifting mechanism is on the till on the merc and on the yamaha it was a seperate handle

We are talking about a boat here and not an inflatable woman, right?

Good choice on going w/ the two stroke. They publish a 35 lb difference but I am here to tell you its more. I had a Mercury 15 4 stroke and sold last year and bought a Mercury 15 2 stroke, purely for the reason of weight. I was waiting for the 4 to wind up in the bottom of the lake during taking it on or off. The 2 works great and very little smoke. Enjoy your new toy.
