I just heard on Jay & Bill (97.1 sports The Ticket) that there won't be Joe Vision tonight because NBC, who is broadcasting the Stanley Cup Finals, wont allow it. They want everyone to watch it at home so they can count houses and boost ratings and in turn, boost revenues.
I think that just stinks for those folks who like to attend Joe Vision and support the charity the entrance fee supports, not to mention its fun atmosphere there at Stanley Cup time. Joe Vision is cheap and fun way to enjoy the hockey playoffs if you can't afford or obtain a real ticket to the game.
I'd suggest we boycott NBC and watch the game on Canada's CBC. Besides, the commentary on CBC is superior to NBC, by a mile. Real hockey fans watch CBC anyhow.
I heard this on my way into work this morning and was like "are you kidding me?" I agree, everyone should watch it on CBC. Most people that go to Joe Vision go to hang with other fans and party it up, I bet most will head elsewhere to watch the game, not simply go home.

I heard this yesterday and thought it was rediculous too. Now we can all watch the NBC broadcasters kiss the butts of Crosby and Malkin from the comfort of our homes.

and who is NBC to tell JLA what to do anyway? I'm thinking they put pressure on the NHL who said no to Joe Vision...
I think you may be right, but with a back door story: As the 97.1 morning show morphed into the next set of hosts (I dont know their names) there was more and deeper discussion indicating that the NHL ALSO gets revenue from the broadcast. That said, CBC also is not allowed to show on Joe Vision either. (they would be the next logical choice, right?) Being CBC is not even run by anyone in our COUNTRY, nobody could push this or approve this part except Bettman, far as I can tell. $$ talks BS walks. So I think now the real tale is unwinding....and I'm thinking Bettman is the AH here, fans-wise.

Ya know thats not a bad idea. Portable sat dish, genset, projector....show it on the side of the building facing the Detroit River and everyone goes down by boat to watch it.....
