Here that Ripping. As much as I love ice fishing I am ready to pull the boat out and put the shanty up. Especially now that I have loaded up on some new rods and reels for this year. I have a paper grocery bag that I have placed all my new baits in that I bought all winter long that I still have to go through and add to my tackle box so I can probably stand another month of ice until I get that sorted out.

Now i'll lose a nights sleep thinking about your post Ripping. lol

Your right sun's getting higher, days getting longer, were closest we've been since winterizing.

I'll pay for this information!!!

Why is it the night before going fishing all i do is flip and flop in the bed. What's my problem!!!! It's been like this all my life. For some reason the night before I go fishing i only get a few hours sleep. I guess i don't know how to turn my brain off, and say hey kid GO TO SLEEP.

Is this a common problem?

h2o<---says HELP!!!

i had better get started on the honey do list soon. march is a pretty quick month, usually, do to the rapid weather changes. it just seems to go by quick. hopefully we will be seeing temps hanging obove freezing and getting into the 40s for a week at a time. that will help to thaw all my water so i can go scouting

i can not wait to go fishing brothers. i think this season was the worst case of cabin fever for me. it has literally turned me into a whining sissy. i have played with all the tackle. cleaned all the reels. checked all the rods. organized and reorganized. read every magazine in the house, some twice and three times. watched every video. woke up early every saturday to watch fishing. the only things left are to clean the spare room, paint the bathroom and replace the faucet, put up new closet doors, and wash the carpets. non of which have anything to do with fishing.

the days are getting longer, the temps arent as unforgiving latley. i bet the fish already miss us. they are probably just as board as we are. i can almost smell the exhaust rolling across the calm waters now.

april 1st and im out. you can find me on kent or cass. as long as the launched are free of hard water.

this is gonna be a great year

H2O, I know exactly how you feel because I experience the same thing. I can't figure out a way around it. I've tried taking like unisom/nytol around 8:00pm before I goto bed and that doesn't help. I've stayed up until Midnight hoping to maybe get 4-5hrs of sleep that doesn't help. I've changed what I eat before bed and that doesn't help. Sometimes before a tournament I don't even get really excited and still can't sleep. I average 2-3hrs of sleep before a tournament and that's not 2-3hrs of straight sleep, it's off and on. It's probably more of a mental issue than anything. You convice yourself that your not going to sleep well before you even goto bed. I get so jealous/frustrated when some of the guys say, man I slept like a rock, I feel great. Anyone have suggestions for us?????

Yea its like Deer season opening day, you spend the night before playing cards ( losing your money) suck down a couple suds, talk about the next day, chances are you are going to see1-2 o'clock AM and then think about what you and your buddy's talked about while you lay in your bed or bunk, cot ETC....... but no matter how tiered you are and even if the action is slow you always enjoy the hell out of it,,,, because its your passion and your love for what it is you do.......Thank god for obsesion.......

I've tried everything short of a doctor and sleeping pills,, don't want that. But I guess it is mental, and i can't control it, I think more about catching and the hit feel the rod give's you I never thing about not catching because it really never happens. I guess we just have to live with it as it's been common for me since the first trip to Lake St. Clair many eons ago.

And i'll dose off but always wake than flip and flop and turn and even get into the fetal position lol. usually a hour before i have to get up i just get up and take my time getting ready. Also the funny part is I'm really not tired when i'm fishing. But the night after fishing I snore so loud my wife says your not going fishing LOL I just look at her and laugh ( right ). So I'll just continue to try and sleep the night before and that's all i can do as there is no cure.

h2o<--- don't normally snore, only after fishing.

That's hilarious!! It appears so many of us suffer from the same condition brought on by fishing. I am not in any way or form a tournament fisherman and suffer the same anxieties every night before heading out to the lake with the boat but strangely do not seem to suffer the same effect the night before an ice fishing outing. By the time I get up in the morning and start to hitch the boat up I already have all my lures and spots picked out from staying up all night thinking about it. I think maybe we are just that efficient and don't want to waste all that useless time sleeping when we need to be preparing for the morning. Problem is that I am so tired on those mornings I can probably think of at least 3 things I meant to bring that I forgot.

Come on now H2o don't tell lies there is no way you catch a fish every time you fish unless you don't fish often. How would you like to be me I go through the same thing toss and turn half the night but I have to do that about five days a week so I end up snoring all weekend. There is no cure known to man for this. I am having a hard time right now no going out to the lake and cutting a long slot so I can cast a buck tail. Hurry water it is time for ice out. See ya this week end at Gibraltar. Bob

After you hear my seminar you'll say Gosh he doesn't know what skunked is. I'm not capable of lieing. Don't like to get caught. lol It's true been out about 30 times last year and always catch fish. But i don't go for muskie all the time. It's easy to catch fish if you do the right things.

h2o<--- oh no i'm cooked now!! lol

I've had a couple similar cases...one that comes to mind is a time last year when I went down to Florida to fish Okeechobee. Me and a friend were invited to fish some private pits supposedly loaded with some monster bass, but it was about 3 hours north of Clewiston, so we had to wake up early. Friend told me he'd pick me up at 3:30...I stayed up till 1 riggin up my rods with the essentials, organizing what I was gonna take, and doin all that good stuff...I woke up at 2...lol...an hour of tossing and turning...not what you would call good sleep...hehe...But I woke up wide awake...ready to go...showered up, ate my Wheaties, and was waiting for my buddy outside...

Sometimes I dont even sleep. Last years blackout was an example. Was supposed to head down to Sandusky to pre-fish with a friend. Since there was no electricity, no clocks worked. Couldnt set my alarm. Couldnt sleep. My city had to be evacuated because of a Marathon Plant...I guess somethin was leaking...so my family proceeded to go to some other family's house the next city over. I stayed in my truck, listenin to the radio...didnt get one bit of sleep that night. Noticed that I only had a 1/4 tank of gas in my truck...no gas stations were workin. Nearest one was out by Metro Airport. Left to Sandusky on a 1/4 tank...lol. My mom finally told me what she thought of my fishing obsession after I tried siphoning her gas from her van..."We have no power!!! You have no gas!! You wanna go to Sandusky to fish!! You're sick!! there is somethin wrong with you!!" I found it kinda funny...my mom doesnt speak very good english, and she said all that in english with her accent...anyway...everything worked out great...made it 20 miles or so east of Toledo and filled up...Ohio had power...

What we'll do to go fishing...

God bless,

Jose
