Hey guys / gals, just saw this on another board................................

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters. This announcement comes at the time when the situation supposedly still is "fluid" and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force still hasn't issued its final report on zoning uses of these waters.

That's a disappointment, but not really a surprise for fishing industry insiders who have negotiated for months with officials at the Council on Environmental Quality and bureaucrats on the task force. These angling advocates have come to suspect that public input into the process was a charade from the beginning.

"When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario," said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.

"Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the President. The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard working American families and small businesses are being ignored.

"In spite of what we hear daily in the press about the President's concern for jobs and the economy and contrary to what he stated in the June order creating this process, we have seen no evidence from NOAA or the task force that recreational fishing and related jobs are receiving any priority." Did anyone think that by electing a radical socialist that we would continue to be a capitalist nation driven by the free market? Welcome to the United Socialist States of America. The only people I see getting any of that change are the guys on the Lodge & I-75 service drives in Detroit.

Bush had 8 years to make things right for the middle class, he failed, More work for Mexico and China. We have to save the rich and move all jobs out of this country.!!!

maybey someday we can all work at Walmart, Eat at Walmart, and spend every dime we make towards our health coverage (or just die if you are too poor to have coverage).

WAKE UP!!!

Sounds like an issue you can take up with GW Bush and WalMart...and everybody who shops there. I don't think anybody in Congress is going to allow any pres to tell us we can't fish in our own lakes. They belong to us. I have to admit I saw these articles months ago and thought "as if!" but now...it's kinda scary. So who has written to their reps? Check out the links below and let them know you're watching what they do and what you're interests are. They have no choice - Nov is coming. If you're not registered to vote and don't vote - get registered - or don't even bother.

You can do it online at https://webapps.sos.state.mi.us/mivote/

In the meantime - remind these people Nov is coming and you're watching their every move:

Congress: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/

Your rep: https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

If you write Sanborn http://www.senate.michigan.gov/gop/senator...asp?District=11
or Miller http://candicemiller.house.gov/contact/index.shtml a sensible letter they will read it and respond. Be sensible and they'll return the favor.

Don't bother with Stabenow or Levin unless you want your intelligence insulted.

BIG AMEN to that!! Whoever thinks the president has no type of power should not waste their time to go out and vote then. Why should we if it doesn't even matter who is in the whitehouse? That, I think was the most foolish statement in this entire conversation!

I work in Auburn Hills and one of those "shovel ready" projects has been to bring dirt in and haul it away. Swear to God that's what they've done. Go park on Giddings by the Palace if you don't believe me. It's nice dark topsoil too. Amazing.

i didnt say no power. i said very little individual power. huge difference. i DONT vote because it IS pointless. you are assuming that when people vote, the votes are counted fairly and most votes wins or whatever. i dont have that kind of trust. that just covers certain things. the president isn't chosen by the popular vote anyway. the structure is set, you never change it with a ballet pull... i believe that a select few super rich families/individuals control the world, and we are all slaves. thats just me. i have strange political views

I don't think for a moment that votes are counted fairly, or George W. Bush would have never been elected in the first place, but I still get out and vote because it is one of my rights. People that do not vote have absolutely no right to complain at all.

Closures of Fishing areas started way back in the Bush Administration..All you have to do is read BASS times and you will see that George Bush and the Conservitives are no friends to fisherman either...It comes down to corporate greed not just politics..I have been reading on other sights where the diehard right wingers are throwing up the Anti-Obama flags without looking at the true history of these legislative attacks on our fisheries(These are the same closed minded, Rocket scientists that think the Constitutional census was all Obama's idea)....I have no problem with people not liking the current administration just don't be blinded thinking the right wing conservitives have fisherman's interests at heart....

The Bush administration is considering launching one of the biggest conservation programs in U.S. history.
If implemented, President George W. Bush could, with the stroke of a pen, protect vast stretches of U.S. territorial waters from fishing, oil exploration and other forms of commercial development. The initiative could also create some of the largest marine reserves in the world - far larger than national parks like Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon.
The White House is thinking about taking "big steps, not small ones," says Jack Sobel, a senior scientist at the Washington-based Ocean Conservancy, an environmental group.
A spokesman for the White House Council on Environmental Quality confirmed that the administration is considering the initiative but declined to discuss details, saying they are still under review.
The idea is drawing strong support from conservationists who typically have been harshly critical of the Bush administration's overall environmental record. But some of the possible reserves are already attracting opposition from

Bush ended up signing some of this legislation into law....
Bottom line this isn't just a "Current Administration" issue and has been going on for years.....So Far Money and And corporate interests have won out...

It's American's rights to wake up and educate ourselves...Information and "Facts" are easier to get your hands on now than ever....I would suggest that more start doing that before jumping on the bandwagon of the Ill-informed or those with their own personal agenda....

If you really want to be scared spend some time researching the Bush Administrations record on water quality issues and prosecution of violators.....Not only does that effect your fishing but it has an effect on your health.....

Yes, he was a lib too, and I wrote then too. God forbid we poke one hole in the ground to get our own oil. I'm casting my arm off while I can.
