went to change oil in boat today couldnt even get damm filter loose mechanic must reefed on it , big time with wrench . ticked me off big time especially since i drained oil out. and was planning on boating so now said screw it let them get it off at marina.they put damm thing on, but anyways i wanted to switch to a fram filter engine is made or has a chevy block how would i know what filter to use on it? would i just look up say chevy? 5.0? and use that one?

West Marine has a book which tells which Fram filter to use for particular engine models and years.

Boat US does too, but it was gone / stolen last time I was there a few weeks ago.

I read this study a year or two ago on oil filters. I'm not sure how up-to-date it is, but it makes for some interesting reading. It is not very kind to the orange fram filters...

I use either a Mercruiser filter, or the AC Delco equivalent. I try to stay away from other manufacturers.
