Open water?

I'm taking my daughter out for her first ice fishing trip on Sunday. I'm a little bit leary about the ice with the report earlier in the week about the Selfridge to Cotton road open water. Has anyone been out there during the week, how is the ice?

I went out Thursday and I stayed in front of Sulferidge. The ice was 12 to 24 inches thick. I didn't see any open water. I don't think you need to go out to fair to catch fish so if your worried stay close to shore. If you want to be real cautious make your daughter wear a life jacket and bring a rope. People were still taking their trucks on the ice and I saw snowmobilers riding up and down between Sulferidge and cotton road.
I was out at cotton road, just several houses north of the access. At only a couple hundred yards out the ice was about 20 inches, the water about 4 feet, and I saw no open water. Shanties speckled the lake all the way to selfrige but were more concentrated to the north of cotton.
