the guy next door has an 8 h.p. mariner for sale but we can't tell what year it is. it was his father in laws.the tag doesn't give much info,if anyone could tell us how to tell what year it is ,we would be grateful.
Beside's taking it to a boat motor repair shop for I.D. Look on e-bay for 8hp mariner motors and poss. see one like it.
h2o<---ask him if you can take it to boat motor place he's got to say ok he's next door. There should be info on it some where look all over take the cover off look inside cover all around motor. Just tryin to help.
The last number of the serial number should be the year it was made. This won't help you with the decade only the year. So if you know it was from the 80's, 90's etc and the last number is 8 then you would know it 1988 or 1998 etc. Of course it might be really old and it wouldn't apply they started doing this in the 80's I think. Hope this helps!
If this doesn't help email the serial number to the Mercury website contact email. They will respond with the date!
