Anybody ever hear of a sunken 300 foot ship outside marker 24, middle channel ?

It is an old steel barge, it was visible in the late 80's eraly 90's,

I do believe that it is right outside number red # 14 however,

Do not try to find it it is very close to the surface, sharp and dangerous. With the current you do not even want to float over it!

Afireman will tell you where to find it!

Yes, he was telling me.......His brother came to my house last week to pick up captain pegleggs trailer.

Is this wreckage charted / documented somewhere ? GPS coordinates ??

This is awful dangerous, imagine a jetskier wiping out there !
Just very concerned.

When did it sink? Did all survive?

Here it is....Brian is right about the marker near it. The black circle before marker 14 just outside the channel near the depths of 34/31 is a piling......If you start looking at a chart the lake/channels are full of under water stuff.
Its not there. Its up by the north channel more.

I think Instigator hit it a couple years ago too.
An aerial view for your pleasure.

It does look more like a ship than a barge???
It does look like a ship. Cool pic though
There is a wreck near 14 on the middle and one up on the North Ch. as well. Look in Lake Discussion...I posted another picture. Sorry it's not very good.

Great pic, Jack...can you post one of the north channel wreck, too? Thanks!~
Im learning new things everyday. Glad I didnt find that the hard way.
The Pic's of this area are not as good, so I'm not sure if this is it or not.

Just a guess going from your map Threecrabs, but could it be the dark rectangle to the south and west of the pier???
I can see something in your photo, Jack....That is probably it.....

Question, what website do you get these photos from? Pretty cool to see a actual shape of the sunken vessel.
is there any meritime info on this wreckage ??

YEP, I left 1/2 an outdrive there a few years ago . . .
It's BIG, STEEL & VERY DANGEROUS!
AND, it's right where they are showing it on that map.

There is also another one closer to the lake on the other side of the Channel. That one is wooden & mostly rotted away, though.
YES, That is right that one in the middle is a ship, what an awesome picture, thank you for the post.

Brian
wow! that's amazing! those photos are intese. i love shipwreck stuff, and it's just so unbelievable those wreckages are here where we boat every summer. wow!
sort of creepy, too.

aju, where do you get such great pics?
Yes, my younger brothers boat, he wasn't on the boat, found the sunken ship the hard way! My older brother was at the helm and I was the passinger. It was right outside of Browns to the left, on the left! The home owner that lives there came out and told us all about it! (A little late!) We had to get towed off by Michigan Marine Salvage at a cost of $380, which thanks to the LSCN discount was 50% off! The boat has just a liitle damage to the bottom and is for repair now and some other work that needed to be done, but it will be back out on the lake next weekend better then ever!

Here is a photo with Browns and the location of the ship shown in my first pic.

This is the site that I get the images from.
dang, that still sends shivers.
any luck on finding out a history of that sunken vessel?

Can you give a better location on this one?

Just back from PIB and CP. Found an old shipwreck, circa 1860's, on the west side of PIB near the State Park swimming area. Pretty cool for a treasure hunter like me.
