I am wondering about the reports from Lakeside's Capt. Dan about the perch action out in front of the grosse pointe yacht club ?, is he talking about out near the shipping channel ?. I am new to the lake, all I have is a 14' boat. I am looking to find some perch closer to shore for my boys and i, but wont go out as far as the SCL in that small of a boat. I would appreciate any advice.
Thats a tough call, he wants to sell bait. I would ask Anglers Point, Jimmy's, M&M outdoors, or 9mile BP see what they know. I haven't been out. And welcome to the site.

I will definately try shiners. I went out for the first time a couple weeks ago near huron point and didint get any perch not even any bluegills. There were quite a few boats in the area that were anchored so i guessed they were perchin. My boys did get to see a HUGE musky there by our boat and it fired them up, they thought it made the trip worthwile. We casted spinner baits and large rapalas no luck but something large did miss a lure right by the boat. Any way thanks for the reply

M&M is down 23 mile where the hobby shop was, it is past the dairy queen. And yes Anglers Point is directly across from the selfridge the selfridge ramp. Both terriffic places.
With a 14' boat I would wait for a west or northwest wind. I have fished out from GPYC a few times with year with not great success. The last few years I have done really good this time of year with very few boats in the area. Although there is still some quality fish in the area. Try drifting until you find a few and then maybe anchor. Try between the point and GPYC. I would suggest about 16' of water or whatever you feel comfortable with in your boat.

Thanks for the tip. The weather this year has seemed to change the fish patterns as compaired to years past, at least thats what i've been hearing. What would be the reason to wait for a West or Northwest wind ? Because the waves may not be as bad as if from another direction ? or is the perch fishing better in that area with those type of winds, and are you using a perch spreader rig with a weight directly on the lake bottom ? I dont know how effective that method would be as weedy as this lake is.

Thanks for the advice!! Did you get enough for a meal ? A fresh Perch dinner right now sounds REAL TASTY. What method are you using to catch them ? I read something somewhere about using a bobber just above the weeds, must be a slip bobber and i would assume a couple of hooks with either worms or shiner minnows and some split shot.
