My windshield in pitted (for lack of a better word). Is there a way of smoothing it out and making it better? I was thinking steel wool.

Never use steel wool. It can leave small particles of the steel behind. You won't notice at first but it will start to rust and look worse. That's a good tip for any boat cleaning.

You won't be able to smooth the pitting but you should be able to clean it up nice with some scouring powder like comet.

If that doesn't work then you can try bronze wool.

Thanks that will be my third project on the "ToDo" list.

Guess it depends on how deep the pits are, and what, if any, finish is on the aluminum.

Personally, I would try some rubbing compound in a lesser conspicuous place. Might be able to polish much of that out.

Mine is a bit pitted too and I found this info at Boat US last year.

1) Knock down craters with a razor blade
2) Rub with bronze wool and rubbing compound
3) Apply a metal wax
4) Finish with Interlux teflon sealer

I have not tried this yet.
