I copy and pasted this from OSO. This one was the end of June last year and was pretty cool. It wasn't too expensive and Mike ran a pretty good party.

The Metro Beach poker run is the weekend of Aug
20th-23 2004.
More info to follow after the 1st of the year.
Have a great holiday.

Thanks

There's always Smoke on the Water on the west side of the state. You can do a search for that one. It's supposed to be really nice also.

Hi Freckles,
How you guys doing? I was dissapointed to see that they scheduled the poker run for the same weekend as the Woodward Dream Cruise. Mike seems to think it will not effect attendence, but I have a feeling it will. We had a good time last year, but unless it looks like a lot of boats will attend we will skip it. How are the CardSharks.

Hi Donna,
We're doing good, waiting for the weather to warm up...
I talked to Boyd and Shirley (Cardsharks). He's been working a lot, but they're looking forward to warmer weather, too.

I was surprised at the date of the poker run, too, but I don't think the Dream Cruise will affect it. I just hope the wells and bathrooms are clean for the people who'll show up. Last year was iffy. (I just remembered: last year's was in the height of fish fly season. Maybe that's why they changed it...)

Like I said, Mike threw a great party. I thought it was priced right and I felt like I got my money's worth. He was visible and accomodating. It was our first poker run, but it won't be our last.

Christine,
We really liked the run last year,& like you say the value was very good. Smoke on the Water is $1,000.00 a boat and we will definately not be doing that one. I am still not sure about the effect of the dream cruise, we had an event on a Friday night on the lake out here during that weekend and almost no one showed. Reading OSO shows me these guys are into motors of all types, boats, cars, trucks, motorcycles, snowmobiles, if you can put gas in they want to drive it.....................I am glad Ian is not that bad. I was happy to see the date later in the season, July would have been better, but I am sure it is not that easy picking dates. Being so late in the season I hope we will not have broken anything.
I keep asking if there is spell check on this site, do you know.

Would definitely enjoy a Poker run or even a Fun Run. Was suppose to be

Tentative 2004 Fun Run dates:

June 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th or 27th
July 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th (Sunsation Rally on the 24th) or the 25th
August 1st, 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th or 29th

Seriously, Tom and I have been talking quite a bit about trying to do a better job "organizing" some of these fun runs while keeping the small feel of everything. Organizing stuff like different lunch stops with maybe a banquet style serving. We also talked about possibly renting a helicopter for one event and shooting pictures. Of course, people might have to pony up a few bucks to cover cost. Again, this is just stuff we are throwing up in the air.

Also talking about doing an overnight(s) run up in Northern Michigan the first week in July (GM Shutdown). I'm sure we'll keep everyone in the loop.

Bayley and for anyone else that is interested there is going to be a big event on Lake MI the first weekend in July called War Party, it will start in MI City Indiana and go into Chicago and back, tons of boats will be there. We are going, and then heading up the WI side of Lake MI, we usually launch in South Haven

Also if anyone is interested I am thinking about trying to get a group to go to Pt Huron on Boat Night (Fri July 16 th) and then head to Grand Bend or Bayfield on Saturday.

We have done this a few times and have had good luck getting advanced reservations in the municipal marina off the black river. That is an excellent marina, nice docks, and very clean restrooms and showers. The only drawback is it is a short cab ride or long walk to the downtown area.

Last year the SPYC had their Port Huron outing that weekend & stayed at Bridgeview. Milord had a big group at the Sarnia Marina for the Bayfest Party that weekend too! Can anyone confirm if these dates come together again??
