Very well said Tango....you and your team of volunteers pulled off a World Record Effort that will sure pay off next year.
No one can doubt this......that was the longest "gauntlet" in the world!

Wow! Although we didn't break the record the pictures are quite impressive. To all of you who voluntered for this event, your hard work and dedication to bring this together was simply amazing. Thanks!

We still hold the unofficial record of 1547.....Tango was saying we could have had 3,000 if the ends were connected.
The photo should show at least 1547 boats connected, and we are still waiting for Guinness to verify that.

no, the 1547 includes boats from both sides of the gauntlet as well as what is refered to as the D line that was thought to be connected
we have no idea how many boats are on each side
the problem with not having one line is that when the loop is or is not closed, its impossible to tell which people who are registered are included or who is registered but outside the cutoff

Just a question if Lake Norman held the record at 703 boats. Wouldn't we break the record with just one of our lines

The raft site said we had two lines with about 1000 each wouldn't we have beat it even if the two lines weren't together

Not a big deal because the day was such a hit, everyone did a great job pulling this together.

I think everyone did a great job and while they might not be connected who cares everyone had fun. The pics are sweet....that's a lot of boats!
Would they be considered connected because of all the cross ropes????? In a sense they are all tied together.

Continuous is the key here.....not connected.
Also I think someone has to be on each vessel for it to count.

thought about the cross ropes, but we can't tell where the ropes are and which registrations to exclude from beyond the last rope, its supposed to be a continous line so that would be hard to figure
also, thought about the record of 750 boats or whatever, but again, we have registrations from both sides of the gauntlet and can't confirm which side is what registration
we went over several ideas on how to get it official but they all seemed to take a little creativity that may be construed as cheating or just not quite right
we want to keep the competition fair and credible, we have the numbers but not the organization, with the proper sponsorship those numbers will be even greater, that with further volunteers and a better more organized plan will make next year a guaranteed success

Just post telling everyone that you want to try again in a few weeks. I bet word will get out to attract enough boats again.

WELL, I just don't know what to say.......I guess there's a lot of things I should say but I won't.
I had a good time riding around in the dingy 9:00 - 11:30 on Saturay morning. I had an even better time walking around in the water registering boats from noon til 4:15. It was nice to meet so many people and have a drink with them.
I will be happy to do it again next year if you want me to.
A big thank you to all the people that worked their asses off to make this thing happen. Their names have been mentioned so many times I'm not going to sit here and list them all again. They know who thwy are.
