Yes, great job!!! Even more so after seeing the length of those lines!!! I didnt believe the 3000 boat nimber that was being thrown around, but I can see that it was possible.
Wow! Although we didn't break the record the pictures are quite impressive. To all of you who voluntered for this event, your hard work and dedication to bring this together was simply amazing. Thanks!

We still hold the unofficial record of 1547.....Tango was saying we could have had 3,000 if the ends were connected.
The photo should show at least 1547 boats connected, and we are still waiting for Guinness to verify that.
That's my understanding of the situation as of now.
no, the 1547 includes boats from both sides of the gauntlet as well as what is refered to as the D line that was thought to be connected
we have no idea how many boats are on each side
the problem with not having one line is that when the loop is or is not closed, its impossible to tell which people who are registered are included or who is registered but outside the cutoff
QUOTE(rerun @ Aug 11 2004, 07:24 PM)I think everyone did a great job and while they might not be connected who cares everyone had fun. The pics are sweet....that's a lot of boats!
Would they be considered connected because of all the cross ropes????? In a sense they are all tied together.
thought about the cross ropes, but we can't tell where the ropes are and which registrations to exclude from beyond the last rope, its supposed to be a continous line so that would be hard to figure
also, thought about the record of 750 boats or whatever, but again, we have registrations from both sides of the gauntlet and can't confirm which side is what registration
we went over several ideas on how to get it official but they all seemed to take a little creativity that may be construed as cheating or just not quite right
we want to keep the competition fair and credible, we have the numbers but not the organization, with the proper sponsorship those numbers will be even greater, that with further volunteers and a better more organized plan will make next year a guaranteed success
WELL, I just don't know what to say.......I guess there's a lot of things I should say but I won't.
I had a good time riding around in the dingy 9:00 - 11:30 on Saturay morning. I had an even better time walking around in the water registering boats from noon til 4:15. It was nice to meet so many people and have a drink with them.
I will be happy to do it again next year if you want me to.
A big thank you to all the people that worked their asses off to make this thing happen. Their names have been mentioned so many times I'm not going to sit here and list them all again. They know who thwy are.
Record or not I just want to say thanks to everyone involved for providing us one of the absolute best times I have had in 20+ years on that lake. ..or land for that matter.
We will, we will, out raft you!!! (sung in my very best Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody voice
)
The people of LSC now how to throw a party!!!! (or should I say, quoted from Bikinigirl last Saturday, "Do I know how to throw a party or what?" Yeah, I heard ya, chicka! Made me giggle
Hey Guys-
just wanted to say great job! I'm the guy from Lake Norman Magazine who came up to check out your raftup.
I was blown away by all the hospitality (let's just say the gauntlet left a real impression on me!).
What an incredible raftup for your first try. I definitely think you had over 2000, which means you had well over 2 miles of boats to deal with.
We've had the luxury (and challenge) of doing it 7 times -- starting out with under 300 the first year and making it to 1453 this year (I'm not sure where the 703 number is coming from that people keep quoting -- that may have been from 2 years ago). I'll attempt to post a photo from the raftup 2 weeks ago, but i've never posted a pic on this site, so I don't know if it will work.
Regardless, we know that 1500 for us won't even come close to cutting it next year. I can only imagine what the Lake St. Clair Raft is capable of with more publicity and even more motivation.
I also look forward to seeing what Lake Norman can do now that everyone knows we have a legitimate threat to our record.
Good luck -- this is going to be blast!
I look forward to seeing you again next year.
I just realized - that pic looks like they are trying to make an outline of the lower peninsula!!!
Traverse City in the upper middle and Port Huron near the bottom. A few more boats they would have been to LSC.
Thanks for the honor LKN!!! It's gonna take a lot more boats to get the whole state
