I was left on the dock unfortunetely, I had to play softball last night grrr but my buddy Andy went out with Moose along with his Uncle and cousin I believe. They had the lines in around 5 and fished untill sunset from the dumps to almost the hump. I guess the fish were pretty scattered and on differant baits. Moose said they were hitting boat rods with loke's and wiley's as well as board rods with bucktails. There wasnt a hot bait, hot speed, or hot spot, just kind of spread out hitting everything. They went 9/10 with this one hog caught on Andy's handtied red/white/blue bucktail on a board rod. I normally wouldn't post on someone elses fish especially if i'm not on the boat but Andy isn't smart enough to post a picture and Moose is too low key lol so I figured i'd do the honors and share some nice fish porn.
From what I gathered, the fish wasnt measured or weighed but Moose has put enough fish in the boat to make a good guesstimate and he called it between 51 and 53 somewhere between 32-35lbs. Fish was released along with all others to be caught again. Needless to say, next time I won't be left on the dock lol the one time I don't go they get a hog in the boat.

QUOTE(Junkster @ Jul 14 2009, 12:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Great looking musky!! That does it, I'm going to the southshore.

Lol they've been hungry lately for sure. My last 3 reports were my last 2 trips out and the one I missed yesterday and I believe combined Moose has been 29/35 with probably 15 or so over 45'' and a few over 50''. My numbers might be a bit off i'd have to check my reports again but they've been hitting good.

when you guys say "Southshore", how far off the actual shoreline are you approximately? Maybe I'm asking too much here but I'm clueless when it comes to catching these fish and knowing ~ how far or FOW would really help. Thanks.

It really depends where along the South shore you are. From the Upper DR to Puce the shoreline is pretty shallow, in some spots maybe half a mile out, until you start reaching 7fow+. Once you reach around Belleriver/Ruscome River, you can get to 9-14 fow pretty quickly. If someone drops that Marine Cruiser map, you can see what I am trying to say.

You can catch Musky in 3-20 fow, so different techniques are needed. Probably better for casting before Puce, and better for trolling after Puce, but trolling the entire shoreline is always productive.

Thanks for the comments guys and to Fishon for posting the report. Big fish have been really snapping. I have spent most of my time in 15 to 17 FOW. Fishon was playing ball again tonight and missed another chance at a big fish. We boated a beast that was larger than this one......Report and pic to follow soon.

Think like a Musky,
Moose
