We were thinking about camping at Algonac and fishing St. Clair River 8/21-8/29, looking to catch smallies and possibly walleye. We have fished the lake before but not the river just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. How is Algonac for camping haven't been there before either. Thanks.

You better get reservations if you are arriving on Friday through Sunday. It usually fills up early and now that it is so easy to get reservations, most do that.

It is a great place to stay for fishing the river. Do a search on St. Clair River here and you can find some of the past posts on the topic of fishing it if you search back last years season.

The campground has new bath house and the park has been really full.
You can launch your boat right there in the river. Once you launch, head just down river to the first dock. Start drifting (or back-troll) and either jig 3/4 oz jigs with rubber minnows or drift a crawler harnes (chartrusse & silver) Be carfull there, there are lots of snags but a ton of Walleye.
2nd spot to try is drift crawler harnesses right down the middle of the river in front of the park. WATCH OUT FOR FREIGHTERS!!!

Good luck!
