I've been a member of KIWANIS since 1984. They are an International organization, similar to Rotary & Lions, with emphasis on children & families. During the holidays, the Sterling Heights chapter coordinates dozens of schools, churches & other organizations to gather, sort & distribute food & gifts to families throughout Macomb County.
This year, I'm guessing due to so many layoffs & such, requests have almost doubled!
During the year, we've got more schools & businesses involved in collecting goods, but now we have to collect it from THEM! Then repackaging & deliver it.

This is the agenda, please jump in whenever you can:
Friday, December 12th, There will be a food pickup at Oakbrook School @ 3:00. Need vehicles & strong backs.
Sunday, December 14th, We need help picking up the gifts from St Ephrems Church at 2:00.
Thursday, December 18th, We will be meeting at the 16 Mile and Van **** storefront location at 8:30AM to begin school pickups. There will be approximately 8 schools to pick up from. Help is needed w/many vehicles & strong backs.
Friday, December 19th, the pickups will begin at Bemis Jr High at 8:30AM. there are approximately 7 schools to pick up and the produce at Meijer. Help is needed w/many vehicles & strong backs.
Saturday, December 20th, Sorting and Packing will begin at 9:00AM @ 16 Mile and Van **** storefront. MUCH Help is needed.
Monday, December 22nd, Deliveries will be made beginning at 5PM. Help is needed w/many vehicles & strong backs. There will be a pizza & beer party afterward.

This is a great opportunity to have a HANDS ON holiday experience. My kids & their friends look forward to helping other families out every year. Call me for more details 586-854-1515.

Who can help & when?

That's GREAT!

The 12th should be quick because it's just one school.

The 20th will depend on how many people show up to help sort! You can show up & leave whenever you wish, though.

Pay back?

lol here is the mass email that I sent to the entire Beta Lambda Kappa listserve:

Hi everyone!

This Saturday Dec 20th the KIWANIS organization is requesting help sorting and packaging food and gift donations.

This international organization coordinates dozens of schools, churches, and other organizations to gather, sort, and distribute food and gifts to families throughout Macomb County. This year due to so many layoffs and such I'm guessing that requests have doubled!

If you are planning on attending would you please contact me via email at [email protected] or by cell phone (586) 216-4830. Also please tell me if you plan on bringing friends so that I can get a feel of how many people plan on attending. You can bring people who don't belong to Phi Theta Kappa, we need as much help as we can get!

Please meet us at 9:00 AM at the 16 Mile and Van **** storefront location. There is a stripmall at the northeast corner of that intersection and in the middle of the stripmall is a storefront with a large Kiwanis sign. Looking forward to seeing you there!
