Stratos / Javelin tournament Port Clinton Ohio
Has anyone heard what the winning weight was? I heard the boat that was to be given away was pulled from second place. There were some upset anglers.

Stratos Boats had a poor turn out because they didn't communicate well with the anglers. They didn't send out paperwork for the tournament until the last minute. I recieved mine on Wednesday, two days prior to the meeting in Port Clinton. I decided it was a cluster and fished Active Anglers out of Erie metro instead.
The poor turn out is easy to understand. If you had to drive from WV or Tennessee, would you have made the long drive without ever recieving confirmation from Stratos that the tournament was actually happening?

They got out of it exactly what they put in. A poor turn out due to a poorly organized event.

37 something pounds won the tournament. 28 something was the cut off to make the top 25 for the old hickory championship tournament. The field was open to 200 boats, I believe only 80 participated so obviously the payout was impacted big time. As far as the tournament itself everything ran smoothly, personally I didn't have a problem with the paperwork. I don't know this for fact but I heard a lot of people didn't return this year because they confined last years tournament to the bay both days. Just left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Big Bass overall was right around 5.56 and the big bag for both days was right around 20.50.

Actually it was very well run, Yeah' they got the final papers out late but if you qaulified for it you knew about it a long time ago.

The reason for the low turn out I think is because last year they had to restrict everyone to the bay and it was miserable fishing. But that was very responsible of Stratos due to the fact we had 30+ mph winds and someone who was not used to that could have been killed. ( even I would not have liked being out there with a bass boat ).

The same weekend last year they held the RCL at the same time on the same waters and there was two walleye boats sunk, One swamped out and One actually flipped over, so with that in mind they made the right choice, I hated it too but it was the only decision to make.

The reason for the low payout of course is they figure it on a full field of 200 boats and they can't give out that second boat without a full field. Plus some of the entry for the regionals goes for the World Championship. If you qualify for the world championship there is no entry fee and you fish for two 201's plus everyone that fish's it gets a check. So there is a lot to win if you make it past the regional.

I Qualified by finishing 6th in the regional and this will be my third world Championship berth and I can't wait, They treat us like kings and it is an awesome event.

Poorly organized prior to the event. I don't know how the tournament itself was handled, I'll have to take your word for it.

Of course you were informed Chris, you're affiliated with Wonderland. The rest of us were not. I knew the date of the tournament and nothing else (officially). I had to call Stratos direct 3 times to get them to finally admit they hadn't sent the paperwork out. That was one week prior to the date of the tourney.

That's poor organization. That, along with the fact that the Southern boys don't like to fish Erie anyway is the reason for the poor turnout.

I agree with you, last years decision to close the lake was justified. I fish Erie from ice-off to ice-on and would not have wanted to venture out those two days.

I'd be willing to bet that this year will be the last for a Regional on Lake Erie.

They took in over 30k in entries. Besides time by employees, they had little expense. They count that boat as 20K. The boat is no sweat off them and the motor and trailer are had by them at low cost. It was a weak payout disguised as appreciation for owners. I don't care what they give out at the finals. It's cheap promo for them. I was at the first World Championship and regional. It was nice...but the payout was better. I guess fishing for a boat is great...but don't disguise it as appreciation for owners. We all footed the bill. I think they have Genmaritis. Great product....sucky tournament.

Just curious are you a Wonderland Salesman for Stratos/Javelin no harm meant just curious?

Yeah, I work for Wonderland in Sales,

As far as the tournament I don't agree that Stratos is all to blame.
You had to qualify for the regional to begin with so you should have known last year you would be fishing this. All the dates have been on the website for some time.

Anyway I had fun and I think it's an awesome deal for the owners, I did not hear any complaints at the tournament.
