Well, i am home earlier than i thought. GOOD! here's a story for ya!!! 11 bus arrives.
1:30, still no one. FOX 2 News shows...how embarrassing: only my toys were on the bus as of 2:15. 3:45, sister fun bags shows up with the boys she nannys & some toys. cool! 4:00, my girl donnis shows up with 2 sacks of toys! WAY COOL! 4:30, saleena drops off some cool stuff! YEAH!!! 5 minutes later, firecracker shows, then big red bus driver! more toys are dropped off by members of jack's commodore club.
i'm thinking...where are the charity people from children's home of detroit? usually the chairity is there to do their 50/50, accept donations, and help FOR THEIR CHARITY. hmmm...
wahooo!!! macomb daily shows to take pictures. very embarrassed cause he's expecting lots of toys. nope. sorry. he wants a shot of someone arriving with toys. i say, 'watch, 5 minutes after you leave, there will be someone.' sure enough...and it's threecrabs and mackenzie! wahoooo! then shandog & joey!! then the sunbums!!!! then some random people with kids wanting pics with santa. wait..santa? yeah...where IS santa?
wait! santa never showed!!! well....BIG RED BUS DRIVER TO THE RESCUE!!! yup, steve dressed as santa for the kiddies (and for shandoggie), so we took pics with the kids (and shandoggie, and threecrabs, and the sunbums). then hey!! it's top gun!! wahoooO!!!
8pm. still no one from children's home of detroit showing up to do anything. this lady comes on the bus saying next time call me and i'll help & gives me her card. cool! 9pm i'm beat and disappointed & sitting with top gun, brbd, danimal & 2 pals of mine. the lady comes back, drunk, and tells me i need to get envelopes and start collecting money. i'm like, 'if you'd like to do it, you can.' and she goes, 'no, honey,
you need to do your job.'
12 hours on a bus with no help. santa not showing up. not many donations. no one from the chairty itself not showing up to solicit funds or support it. listening to people go, 'oh, i didn't hear about it until now, it wasn't promoted right.' and now this drunk is going to tell me I NEED TO DO MY JOB????
then she says she can raise $8000 in 45 minutes. so instead of screaming at her, i tell her, "ok, let's see it." and leave to go get her precious envelopes. she then meets me inside and proceeds to tell me that 'all your pals on your bus think you're psycho & overreacted.' i was like, 'lady, you come to my work and start telling me i need to do my job? you are out of line and are very wrong. here, let's find your envelopes and let's see you raise your $8000 in 45 minutes.' she's like, 'i didn't say any of that.' to which the security led her away because i was about ready to make her the top of the christmas tree in a very uncomfortable way.
when i went back to top gun & crew, they were all looking at me so i say, 'um, did you guys think i was wrong? she just told me you all called me psycho.' they were like, 'we called HER psycho as she was leaving & laughed at her for being such a drunk dumba$$.'
so needless to say, 10pm=DONE. i learned a lot from it, and just need to put this day behind me. so it didn't go as well as i'd hoped... at least the kids are going to get more toys than expected!
and that's worth it.
it's a shame that 'the children's home of detroit' couldn't come out and do more for their own cause. granted, there were about 4 families inside that came because it was for TCHOD, but that was it. only 2 of those families brought anything. i plan on writing a letter outlining my disappointment in what they didn't do for their own kids. it's sad.
so thank you VERY much capt pegleg & taxman for the use of the bus, and thank you VERY much saleena, firecracker, shandog & joey, threecrabs & mackenzie, the sunbums, brbd, & top gun for your totally awesome contributions, and for sharing a cocktail on the bus! and SPECIAL THANKS to BRBD for being santa in a tough spot!
