Allow me to relate my experience with Taco Loco at 24 Mile and Van **** in Shelby Township. Mrs DR asked me to swing through Taco Loco last night on my way home and pick up dinner. She would order it if I would pick up. Deal.

So I get there and they cannot find the order, even though it was placed under my name. Eventually, I call the Mrs, confirm what she ordered, and verify that I have the right order. One burrito dinner, one enchilada dinner, one medium guacamole. Load it in the car and off the 5 miles to home.

At the house, Mrs DR starts unloading the food. Opens a good size (like hamburger-sized) container that has the guacamole in it. There is literally about 1 tablespoon of guac with 3 chips stuck in it and a (very) small garnish of chopped onions and tomatoes. It was ridiculous - about the same amount of food you'd get in a container of ranch dressing from McDonald's. And it was $5 for that little bit of guac. To add insult to injury, our "chips and salsa" was about half a brown paper bag of corn chips. So now I'm pissed.

I get back in the car and drive all the way back up there to talk to the manager about the guac - it was b.s. for $5 - and to get another order of chips. Now mind you, I was not the "irate customer" hooting and hollering but I was disappointed and wanted to let him know why. We eat there or get carryout at least once a month and this was frankly unacceptable.

So I get there, go in and talk to one of the 4 dozen kids that work there. I tell him that I don't believe that a tablespoon of guacamole is a $5 item. He turns around and walks away, whispering to a guy I assume is the owner. This fellow then comes over, tells me that it looks small because of the container it is in
and in any case, it's too bad as he has "overhead" to pay for and that's that, too bad, so sad. He told me that I could go to Kroger and make my own if I didn't like it, and here's your $5. This in front of a number of other customers and without me saying anything other than I was disappointed in the product.

Now remember, I just spend $30 on dinner, and was there with the intention of spending more on another order of chips. I had just driven all the way home and all the way back, so obviously I was not just pitching a bitch because it was convenient. And this guy basically tells me tough sh*t. Well, all right then, I guess it's his business and he can run it the way he wants. I do know that I won't spend another dime there, and neither will my neighbor after I told him the story - two families of four that he's lost for good. And I'm sharing it here so that others can judge for themselves.

On a brighter note, Mrs. DR had to run some errands and swung through Mexican Village at 21 and Van **** - got a big pie-dish sized order of guac and a full pound of chips for that same $5. I know where we'll be ordering from the next time we want Mexican...

YMMV.

Just showed this to my buddy here at work. His buddy owns the place.......He said he is going to let him know he is getting some bad press here by doing business that way........

I feel ya though.. Last Saturday I went to our local Little Ceasars (16/Crocker) for a square, bread and churros(sp?) Pay, drive all the way home, find out they passed me a round ($2 cheaper)....grrrr. Back in the car, more gas to go all the way back, take it in and the kindly explain to the counter girl what happened (you usually get a lot further by being nice-I agree with you there DR), the girls says "oh sorry" hands me a square and takes the now cold round back from me.....turns around and goes back to work... double grrrr.

What did I expect? For starters, pay attention to my complaint... you have 2 shapes to keep track of - that's it!! It would have been nice to just get to keep the round with the square, just for my trouble.... So with gas and all, it prob cost me $11-$12 for a $7 pie, and it took me the better part of an hour by the time I was done.....

Customer service is a dying art, I'll tell ya....

But, like you, I'll take my business elsewhere....

One of my favorite Mexican places.

I suggest if you want value - stay far away from El Charro.

Give Brioni's a try over on Jefferson near Luigi's. They make an awesome pizza, very fresh ingredients. We alternate between them and Little Camille's. Brioni's definitely isn't the cheapest, but their product along with their delivery service is top notch. For instance; in November we had a baby and had the obligatory "It's a Girl" sign in the ground in front of the house. The first time we ordered pizza the delivery person didn't ring the doorbell, but rather knocked softly on the door. The following time we ordered pizza (sign was removed) the same delivery person gently knocked again instead of ringing the doorbell and asked how the baby was doing.

I don't mind paying a little bit more money for food/service that I enjoy.

Oooohhh I second Brioni's.... when we were at Beacon Cove, we'd pick up a pie from them occasionally... delicious. I didnt think their prices were high, personally. I realize I get what I pay for and Brioni's definately delivers the promise of fresh and delicious!

Yeah, I'll give them a try. We just sometimes grab a cheap pie when we just want something quick. I really like Paisanos(sp) on Harper in SCS, for a good pie.

And yeah, I really want to get over to Camilles!!! Everybody raves about it, I just don't get to the Clem too often... I know, bad excuse!!

Taco Loco is right around the corner from me... Mexican Village a leetle south....
We had never been to TL until about a month and a half ago, even though I've lived in the area lots longer than it's been Taco Loco. (remember Frosty Mug?)

Our first time was nice... had a sit-down dinner and all was well. Our second time, just a week ago, the food was not up to par, service was slow (and the place was less crowded) and we decided Taco Loco was not for us. I've patronized Mexican Village (near 21 & VD) since it opened and will stick with them... good food, good price. I do have another leetle Mexican favorite cafe, near my son's home, "Azteca's"... just a little joint, cafe-like, but excellent all-home-made Mexican fare... unfortunately it burned a couple of weeks ago.. don't know if they'll reopen.

If you haven't yet, give Esplendido Pizza and Taco a try, on Mound just south of 23 Mile - used to be Bumpers II. They were a take-out joint and now are a full restaurant. Great tacos, great chicken quesadillas, fantastic deep dish "Chicago Style" pizzas.

Tried Taco Loco once and never went back. Don't remember it being that great. If thats the attitude of employees or management then screw them! Mexican Village is still my favorite. Always great and good prices. Same thing for the Mexican Town location.

Well I like Mexican Food and frequent both... Taco Loco is closer to my house. But I will not go to them anymore.... THANKS FOR YOUR REPORT.

I'll take my business to Mexican Village from now now. You can add another family to your list, husband and wife with five kids. My food bill is always huge so I take reports like this seriously. I hate to be on the hook for a 75.00 or more dinner and have bad service or bad food. I'm not one to complain and my kids know better to keep their mouth shut. I depend on others like this to supply me with good information when choosing an establishment for diner.

Anybody have bad service or food at Joe's?

That's my other place where we frequent often.
