"I need a vacation from my vacation"

"I need a vacation from my vacation"

It's funny, I must've said it about 43 times since last monday. Last Monday we, and by we i'm referring to my gorgeous fiance Stacey, Jordan, her son, Logan, his friend, and myself, your lovable narrator. Well Monday we were finally making good on all the "are you excited?" and "man I can't wait" talk and heading up to do some state parkin' for a much needed week of whatever the hell we wanted and nothing else.

But thanks to God's sense of humor, my absolutely wonderful times were masked with desiring a vacation from my vacation. How could it have happened? My company was top notch. Stacey and I didn't argue
the boys did what ten year old boys do when they get freedom (freedom was in the form of a new bike for Jordan's b-day, a 2010 Haro! You KNOW I rode that thing...) air-soft pistols, and smores galore, and that was have a riot just at the park.

But still I found myself saying it...

I don't even like saying it now, but I can't forget what stress did to my once a year. My once a lifetime. This was the first time Jordan and I got to REALLY hang out. Manno E Manno. Ya know? And we did. It was easily one of the best trips I've ever had! Yes, even better than the time with the twins up in boyne. Man there was chocolate EVERYWHERE! But I didn't come back from that one wishing for a vacation from my vacation.

We lived it up tho. I made sure of it. My begging for something else was always for a lil while. But unfortunately it was almost always. I say almost because I can't deny the great times we were having. We canoed the au sable, with boys in tow on tubes. I couldn't help love life when I looked back after Jordan exclaimed "We've lost Logan to a tree Bobba!" (bobba means dad in arabic... yup that's MY boy) and saw Logan going to town on a peanut-butter-jelly-sammich stuck in the current behind a fallen tree.

Life was good that Tuesday on the river, but Monday kept haunting me.

We got to launch the boat Tuesday afternoon in time for a lil ride around the lake. I wanted to launch Monday, but we got to the park around 4-5 hours AFTER I wanted to, so we had to make sure camp was setup before dark. And it was, but barely.

But we did get a ride in Tuesday, albeit a rough one. It was then that I found out Jordan doesn't do too well on rough water. Tou you or I, wouldn't be considered rough. Logan and Stacey as well. But we're not created equal, and amidst my frustration with my boy, I forgot that, and daydreamed of a vacation from my vacation. We did get a ride in tuesday though, and then headed back in to prep camp for, supposedly, more rain.

You ever sleep in a tent while it's raining? Let me try to describe it for you in simple terms. Wait till your kid starts playing when the saints go marching in on their snare drum, and stick your head in it. Then add to that the paranoia of all your belongings getting wet, on the 2nd day of the trip, and your kids freaking out in a tent 30 yards away. You start praying for vacation from your vacation.

It rained most of the night, and Jordan had to sleep with us. Logan toughed it out in the boy's tent. Jordan and I had a talk the next morning. It was defnintely time to be a big boy.

But wednesday we made the best of it, and I got to get some golfing in with my bro Jack. I beat em and only had one stroke limit to his 4 snowmen! We were awesome that 9. Headed back to the park for some BBQ and Boating, but Jack had to head back home before too long and that meant no boat for him. So the 4 of us would have to pick up the slack. Well, 3.5 of us. Water was calm as can be that day so if Jordan wasn't up for it, we told him we were going to tie him to a tree while we went. Knowing I had all the line necessary to get the job done, he opted for coming along and watching his mom and buddy go tubin. But not before I got some boat porn!

But we had to call it a short evening of boating. And while talking about the potential for rain wednesday night, and thursday, we were thinking there was going to be no Torch lake for me this year. Monday's disaster, even though nobody was hurt, continued to compromise this awesome time for us. So I loaded up that boat that night. With a slight crack in my heart.

It rained good wednesday night, and this time Jordan wasn't allowed to sleep with us. He had to tough it out. And he did. Which I think was good for him. And I think he knows that too now. We pre-packed anything that shouldn't get wet in the truck, and while we got no sleep, again, I at least didn't have to worry about our clothes.

One less thing.

Thursday we woke up to a semi-soaked camp. Most everything held up well, and we were off to Traverse city in hopes of making it out to the dunes. Nope. More rain. So we dropped the boys off at the movies to see GI Joe, which they raved about, and mom and I hit d-town Traverse for some umbrella in the rain kissy time. We window shopped cause monday's drama drained us financially, and made the best of it. I apologized to her for not being wealthy, and she slapped me softly and reminded me of heaven with another soft kiss on the lips, under the state theatre's canopy.

Rain... What rain? People... What people? Vacation... What vacation? Ticking noise from my truck's brake's... What ticking noise from my truck's brakes?

Yeah... stress was around every corner. But in between the corners, I found some bliss in my girl's arms, in my boy's eyes, in the fire's crackle, and in my mind's window to somewhere else, doing something else.

Then I found some bliss at Avalanche Bay!!!
We knew the dunes were out, so we told the boys we'd be putt putting and go carting, but it was an hour away. They were down for it, and after some BC pizza in Boyne City, we surprised them when I pulled up and said I gotta ask these folks at avalanche bay where the go carts were.

They knew what was up by then

It was some good r&r. 5 hours or so in the water, hitting the slides, and body boarding in the fake a wave.

They were passed out before we left the parking lot, and on our way home, I kept thinking of monday, and god's sick sense of humor. Why was it, that on the first day of our once a year/lifetime trip, it was willed that my trailer wheel came flying off doing 65 mph northbound on 75? Why did I have to look out my passenger window to see my wheel passing us flinging rubber shreds while sparks were emitting like blacksmith was going to town on the right side of my trailer? Why was it that I got no reception in that one area for hours. Why was it we were passed by two troopers that didn't check on us? I'll tell you why...

Cause that's just another day in the life of me. Standing on a shoulder with my trailer leafspring deep in earth was normal for me. Cause, like i've said, God has a sense of humor. After 3 days of preparing, cutting down trees, vaccuuming, oil changing, yadda yadda, MY f**kING WHEEL FALLS OFF DOING 65 MPH ON I-75!?!?!?

WHAT

THE

f**k!

I had to call 911 just to find out where we were. My heart was beating out of my chest, my mind was racing, the kids and Stace were freaking out, and I had no idea where to start! Corn on one side, Corn on the other, and I've got no lug bolts! I was finally able to get thru to the police to just find out where I was.

I-75 northbound between exits 185 & 188. So around Standish. I call 4 guys, from midland to standish, none of wanting to help. I finally got a hold of a shop in Standish that would help, even stay late, but I had to get to them. How? Every tow company I called wanted nothing to do with it. He hooked me up with sunrise towing. And I can only show you how we got the boat to the shop... I can only show you:

We got it to the shop doing 35 mph at most, but it made it, with only the tongue jack taking a beating with the tow. The boys at Spartan ceratinly hooked me up, and stayed late enough to help me out, and about $400 later (including towing and the shop) we were back on the road after an experience that will obviously continue haunting me, only about 4-5 hours later.

I hated our vacation for a while. It wasn't a vacation for me. I was too stressed out to love anything. But my family helped me see through the sh*t, for the most part, and I made the best of it. IT was, after all, more about them, and seeing them happy made me happy....

Bearings were shot. I've had two new axle ends welded on by Joe's trailer already. The trailer is totally overloaded with that boat on it, but it's the factory trailer. How the factory put a 4500 pound boat, on a trailer with a gvw of 4000 pounds is beyond me. Single axle for a 22 footer!? It's a 96! Those folks weren't stupid then!

You poor guy this happened on the way TOO vacation!

Yeah bro it was a freakin test I'll tell ya. Did you lose the whole rim or just blew the tires? My rims shot from damage. I need two new tires and a new rim. If I even get stuck with that POS.

A little update on the trailer sichumation. Talked to the adjuster from Progressive earlier and it looks like they're totalling out the trailer. I gotta wait till they come back with an offer but after I figure out what i'm getting i'm going to see what my options are. I have thought about adding an axle, but getting a whole new trailer would be my ideal goal. Time and $$$ will tell. I'm sure I can push the trailer for some cash too. It would make a great fishing boat trailer, but it's just too weak for a heavy a$$ sport boat.

Thanks for the cheers guys. I'm looking for a new trailer if you know anyone!
