I always stay at the RIO, it is off the strip and it's best to rent a car if your going to stay there. Parking everywhere is free. The RIO has a great buffet and they have a cool air show going on every 2 hours in the new part of the hotel. The rooms size they give you for the price is a great deal. RIO also has 2 hot spot Clubs in the hotel.

When you going? We're going in April. My wife's never been there or flown before.

We just stay at my uncle's house. 10 minutes from the strip and free.

We're going for a wedding at Mandalay Bay.

A car is not necessary, unless you want to get to other places off the strip, like Hard Rock or Fremont Street.

i LOVE vegas! i've been 13 times so here's what i suggest:

*stay on the strip for your first visit. there's something awesome about walking out of your hotel right out onto the strip and BAM! you're in the action!

*if you do stay on the strip, you will not need to rent a car. IMO, it's the biggest waste of $$$. you can taxi or walk everywhere, and taxis are not expensive when you're splitting it with another. you can take a cab to freemont street, and it really isn't all that expensive. but if you do rent a car, parking is free.

*where to stay? i suggest somewhere in the middle of the strip. monte carlo was great. good pool, good restaurants. the rio, although off the strip, was awesome. great pool, great clubs, lots of excitement and there is a free shuttle between the rio and harrahs. harrahs, the pool is simple and does not get good sun for tanning. but the carnival court is ALWAYS hopping (just ask raft guy with jager! lol) the venetian: awesome. good pool, great rooms, good shopping. the hard rock is my ultimate #1 totally awesomest place to stay. awesome pool (and they have web cams so we can see you!), awesome club and restaurants (pink taco, nobu), awesome vibe. the luxor is ok. nice rooms, good pool, great club (ra), good restaurants. treasure island is awesome, too, and they have a new free show called 'sirens'.

free shows... there is so much to do there for free (you know me, i love free! and a bargain!). there's the bellagio fountain show, the volcano at mirage, the pirate show at treasure island, the statue show and the atlantis show at cesars palace in the shops at the forums.

let's talk shopping.....drooL!!!!! the desert passage shops at the aladdin are AWESOME!!! so are the shops at the forum at cesars, the fashion square mall, and venetian. wanna know what else is fun? doing your shopping with a margarita!! you can totally drink and shop because you can carry your liquor with you EVERYWHERE!! on the street, in the hotel, in the shops...

i love las vegas. i could go on and on... wanna go out to lunch and talk vegas? let me know!

how about mandalay bay?.. I just checked out the website... seems like a little like the best of both worlds with the beach??? ...

DD .. exactly.. not big into the gambling, just want somewhere to relax with the option of a party... w/o the effort into planning a vacation. Jamaica did nothing for me stuck being stuck on the resort and got bored... was looking into Belize... but that seems like so much work trying to plan it, especially since it will be just shy of a week... if this was a longer getaway.. I'd think about going elsewhere.. but for now, vegas seems just perfect...

I agree. Thats where our nine person bachelor party stayed a couple years ago and it was a blast. Couple of the guys seen some celebritys. the pool sceen is great if that your a lounge lizard after clubbin all night like half of us did. Lotsa thongs for ya, Ok those are for me.
But yes its a couple miles off the strip we always chipped in together on smelly taxi's or took a shuttle bus or on friday we did the navigater limo/stripclub hoppin' thang.

I also here the mirage is pretty good place to stay, I think its a little off the strip too. stayed at the luxor too, ok but the pool sucks.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Alladin didnt like the dingy looking decoy or any of the casino area. but they have cool pool area about 20 floors up and the room that the girls my buddy had meet us the were huge.

the Venetian (Ithink) has the inside shopping center and gondolas runings
thru it. lotsa upscale stores and boutiques too (we kept walking thanks.)

clubs:
new york, new york-studio54- fun
hard rock- the joint?baby's?- fun
the luxor-Ra- techno,dark, loud!
mandalay bay-the rum jungle-had a blast!twice!
strip club- Olympic gardens dont remember the rest

cover every where is about $20, sometimes free at the place your staying.

and if ya stay at the hard rock do not forget to eat at the Pink Taco!

Wow finally a subject that I have a passion for. I guess you could call me an average vistor of Vegas with going about 4 to 5 times a year.

C-girl give me a call I can give you some hints on which clubs to hit, where to stay. Over the years I have met a few of the right connections out there and I could get you into some of the shows if that would be your thing.

Oh yeah I know you like to party and Ck can back what I am about to say. During the day you have to at least stop in at Carnival Court at Harrah's to see Flippy.

Geez, everyone beat me to this one!! I too have a passion for Vegas. I was just there a couple weeks ago and am going back on the 27th of April, then again in May. The thing about asking people for advice is that you're going to get 30 different answers. The whole area is a huge adult playground with something for all tastes. My fav place to stay is Flamingo. I have a few reasons for this. Its not the nicest place on the strip, but I find it completely acceptable. Location is the most important thing to me. Having been to Vegas numerous times, I know pretty much what I'm gonna be doing and where I'll be going before I get there. Flamingo is right in the center of the strip and close to the places I like to go. I can get to Rio or the Palms by taking free shuttles and places like Hard Rock in a cab. Other than that, we can walk just about anywhere. Flamingo's pool rocks. It doesn't have the sand bottom like at Hard Rock and its not the #1 rated pool in Vegas like Mandalay's, but its happening enough for me to enjoy spending 8-10 hours a day there. I can't believe how many people I meet there. I won't go into suggestions on where to go.... you'll get enough of that from people to make your head spin. Its all good!!! Ok, one exception.... Carnival Court, like CK said!!! No matter what we do at night, we always end up there. Say hi to Kevin during the day and Mig and Christian at night. They will most likely buy you a drink. We never pay for our first round. I read the other posts first..... they're all great suggestions. You really can't go wrong if you stay towards the center of the strip. www.lasvegas.com has some good info....check it out. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to wait 72 days till I go back!

Cotty, if you're talking about Flippy that plays with Island Tyme, they weren't on the schedule anytime soon at CC.

Did you book anything C-girl? I hardly gambled at all, and enjoyed my time at the Hard Rock Hotel. The pool was the hotspot, spent 8 hours down there, it was a total blast!!!! Bands are playing, waitresses are taking your order, food, so much to do there! Baby's is the nightclub inside the Hard Rock, music was awesome!!!

Have fun girl!!!

Actually, I've heard the Pirate Show is no more.

I have to see that statue show at Caesar's. Last time I was there they were just building it. I looked under the tarps and saw the partial "statues".

Vegas is pretty sweet, I was there for the Millenium, can you say "INSANE"? The entire strip was people, you couldn't move and it didn't matter because it was one GI-FUGGEN-NORMOUS party!
Down side to it though was when one dude ended up killing himself in front of everyone by climbing up a light pole in front of the Belagio, and then letting go, falling 20-something feet to the ground, and his death. Stupid drunk-a$$!

When I'm in Vegas, I RARELY gamble, and you don't have to drop a dime on the tables to party your a$$ off. The pool behind the Hard Rock is
So many "beautiful" people, you're eyes will fall out!

As someone mentioned, the Palms is the new hot-spot, because of it being one of the places the Real World, from MTV, inhabited a couple of seasons ago. It has Rain and the Ghost Bar, two of the funnest clubs around. Rain is a sunactuary for the techno-freak, hence why I go there!

Then there's Rum Jungle at the Mandalay Bay. A whole wall with ebery kind of rum you could imagine - CBJ's heaven on earth.

Studio-54 in the MGM is a cool place, where you can almost always find yourself dancing with a celebrity on the dance-floor. When I was there last I was dancing with none other than "Alotta Fagina" from Austin Powers, it was hilarious!

My buddy lives out in Vegas, his 20 y.o. wife is the Consierge for the whales that visit the Venetian, so a friend of mine and I are planning on heading out to Vegas on the next long weekend to visit him.....Cotty, you wanna go?
