Fished the lake on Saturday in very windy conditions.
Anyway fishing was so so, caught a few smallies and largemouth on the dropshot and decided to head in.
So on my way in back to crocker launch, I didn't think the ride was going to be as bad because the wind was at my back, was I wrong. Doing about 20 mph wind pushed a bit harder at the crest of the wave I was on and my bow gets pitched down into the chopp in front of me.
In the process of spearheading the water in front of me, thoroughly soaking me, the water proceeded to hit with such force, breaking the mount to my fish finder which was mounted to my gunnel and sending it to the bottom of the lake. Took me a minute to realize what happened. Man was I bummed. I have an excuse to get a new unit.
Moral of the story (be carefull out there !).

you're lucky that it was just a fish finder! I love the lake but she can turn nasty in a heart beat. bust remember it could always be worse! lol

wow thats a sshhiitty story, sorry about your fish finder, but atleast your safe. thing can get crazy out there, and water as pleasing as it can be, can be your nightmare.

better luck next time
At your back and following seas are by far the most dangerous to be in. They "ride" the easiest, but the most unpredictable and dangerous. You're lucky that's all that happened. Big boats with big motors can actually spear a wave and the motor will litterally "drive" your boat deeper into the wave until the entire boat is sumberged. Once a boat, even glass bass boat is sumberged, it loses all tendency to sit upright and you're done.

Sometimes they just get you though. I've had my trolling motor and front graph under green water in this lake. Best thing do there is come off the trottle and let the boat pop back and and drain and continue on.

Glad you made it back safe. Some don't.
Sucks about the fish finder but at least you made it back.
i was out there too on saturday over by memorial park masonic/jefferson.

Yeah the waves sucked i got slapped around pretty good
but nothing like you........sorry to hear about the fishfinder
but atleast you made it back ok.
yesterday evening was real bad it didnt look bad but the waves were tight and hard to ride right. i got beat up but didnt loose any thing. sorry about the fish finder but new gadgets are allways fun any way. saturday was real bad we had to come in cause i was tired of beating my boat to hell for dink perch.
Had that happen in a tournament. Wasn't my boat, but it still sucked. We didn't lose the fish finder, but it ripped all of the wires out and broke the seal, so it was essentially lost anyway. Also ripped off the cover of the rod locker. We were in the same situation, going with the waves.
Sorry to hear about your equipment loss, but glad to hear that I'm not the only one that gets the occasional mouth full of Lake St Clair water as the wind blows the spray right over my windshield.
Always tack back and forth across following waves. Never take them straight on. It takes a little longer to get out of them but it's a lot safer - and drier.
I have had this happen many times with the seadoo's. It really hits with a force. We have been knocked off before and just had a good laugh about it. Hopefully, your post will help someone else avoid such a problem.
sucks about the fish finder but you made it back to go out and fight this big lake another day.
i always hit them at an angle. if there to big i will turn side ways to them
