I heard from someone today that there will be a descion made this September from the DNR about a closed seaon for walleye on the Detroit River and the Michigan portion of Lake Erie in the months of April and May and that this will begin in 2004.
Has anyone else heard of this?

I was out with a well known writer today who told me the DNR isn't going to touch the Detroit River regs, but will be changing Erie regs.

If they close the Michigan portion of Lake Erie during April and portions of May, why would they not touch the Detroit River?
The purpose of them closing Erie is to protect the spawning and as we all know, the reason why the walleyes go into the Detroit River is to spawn.
I do not trust the DNR on this one and we all need to watch this subject carefully in my opinion.

The DNR claims that we have had some bad spawns because the wind and waves have ruined the eggs and fry out on the reefs of Erie. They have probably recognized that the eggs in the river are generally protected from such conditions.
