Forget saving 200k for college ed. You need to worry about the thousands it will cost you for senseless entertainment like going to Chuckie Cheese!!!
We were looking for something to do to entertain our 2 year old (not that he needs it) so we thought why not go to Chuckee Cheese they serve beer right! Well an hour 1/2 and $50 bucks later we walked out with a CC cup and a .50 Tonka truck!!
o.k. well maybe we could have omitted the $12 for 3 beers but WHY? Definitely the $10 cardboard pizza could have been spared so maybe it could have been less. But really what a rip off!!
This was my first time and all I can say is if it wasn't for the beer faaaagettabout it! I guess I'm just a functional alcoholic but to run around with hundreds of kids it's my only way to sanity!!
I don't know about the rest of you parents I think there's got to be better ways and cheaper to entertain our kids!! Come to think about it though, if the owners were really smart they'd offer $1 beers that might keep the parents there longer??
And the parents look so stressed out?
I guess I was just amused if anything what acrazy place that is. I guess I'm naive.......
my .02 for the night!

HA HA HAHAHAHA HA HA welcome to the joys of parrenthood. BTW chuckey cheese and any of its couterparts are tourture chambers for adults. I am so glad that my kidz are older now. Besides the time spent there they are also germ factories be prepared, your child might be sick in a few days. As for cost lets see these are monthly costs for both kids extra stuff

80 guitar lessons

80 Karate per month

50 dance per month

60 gymnastics per month

total 270 per month

football was 200 total per season

But I dont mind: to me that is money well spent if it has a positive effect on my kids life. I will support them 100 % as long as they give 100% to their school work and extra activities.

One other thing that annoys me this time of year is all the stupid cookies and candy and popcorn sales kids are forced to sell for whatever. I must have had 20 kids this week knocking on my door trying to sell me "stuff" I know it's to raise money for something but uughh that stuff is so over priced. I'm just waiting for the day to get back at all these kids for all the money I've spent!

I have a 2 yr. old and another on the way. Chucky Cheese is an implement of torture designed in hell. It's like being at a really annoying casino, where you only have the opportunity to throw money away. We took our son there last year, 3 or 4 days before our trip to Aruba. He came down with the Croop, and we couldn't go.

Now we take him to Costco for a "night out" He gets to play/climb with all kinds of stuff and eat free food. Only problem is no beer

I Definately empathize with ya'!

My 10yr old daughter is in 4 dance classes and competition dance.

It costs 300 a month, plus costumes at the end of year run anywhere between 250 to 300.
Plus she takes percussion....45 for rental.

I too don't mind its worth every penny to see her doing something she loves.

Ok, you two.....I see that now!
I close my eyes when we go in!

WOW!, Steve! Tis money well spent though
Congratulations to your daughter!

Jewels, I have started ditching all the stuff my daughters bring home....I'll go broke buying all that garbage. If it's something we really like, I'll buy it, but we don't shove anything in friends or families faces.....Sometimes I'll buy stuff and give it away as X-Mas presents, hehe

Oh my god !!!! I can truely relate to the PIZZA TORTURE DOME thing.
I usually take a handful of valium before we go to places like that
As for selling stuff at school I don`t feel bad at all about mine selling stuff, after all those years before I was married I had to buy all that stuff from my nephews and nieces so now it`s my turn. I should mention that I have three wonderful kids... girl-8, boy-5, boy-4. It can be a bummer though for social activies, such as parting at bars for now but when they get a little older look out!!!

Being a SINK - single income, no kids, I've often wondered if it would bother me or if I would have the patience for kids or if I will ever be able to afford them. My niece and nephew bleed me dry just over a weekend. But then I think, gee, $35 or $50 on Jacob and Barbara or $35 or $50 at the Tin Fish, either way the money will get spent somewhere. The kids will remember my time spent with them forever, like I remember my aunt spending time and money on me so I guess its a matter of priorities.

Linda.. totally agree with you. I do not have children either **hopefully someday**, so i cant really speak too much about this topic, but i think it definitly is a matter of priorities- I have seen you with Jacob and Barbara and yes, you do spoil them when you are with them...I am sure they LOVE you.
