In Reuters today:
San Smey, 4, eats a piece of roasted rat in the provincial town of Battambang, 181 miles northwest of the capital Phnom Penh February 19, 2004. With meat-eaters shying away from chicken because of the deadly bird flu virus rampant across Asia, sales of rat are rocketing in the impoverished southeast Asian nation.

This is worse than fear factor...
A vendor sits behind his stall of slaughtered dogs in suburban Hanoi. Sales and prices of domestic animals meat such as beef and dog have soared amid the current bird flu outbreak which has been hitting 57 out of the country's 64 provinces and cities.

I wonder why different countries tolerate different meats?

OMG Moneyshot...

those pictures are really disturbing

I'm not sure if they'll last or not - I'll choose not to look at them again but there are a lot of animal lovers on here (and we just raised 3,000 for the humane society two nights ago)

Don't get me wrong, I love animals too, this is from Reuters news....I am in shock that people eat this....I guess because we don't that it is so strange / disturbing. Makes me remember how good I have it! I just thought it was interesting conversation!

the dog thing was more disturbing to me than seeing a little girl eating a rat if you can believe that one

Meat is meat. Eat what is available or starve. I have had squirrel (limb rat), raccoon and rabbit all in the rodent family. City rat I would avoid!!! Alligator, (reptile) and beaver. (No, real fur barring, dam building, flat tailed beaver)
It's all good.

The dogs over there are raised as food and are not quite as cuddly and lovable as our domestic dogs here in the states.

None of that is very shocking to me. And yes I love my two choco Labs.
