First... Hello everyone. I am a newbie to LSCN. This seems like a great place to get news about LSC

New people moved into the house across the street from us a few months ago. On Tuesday night my husband and I went out to try to catch some walleye, but we ended up getting a flat at the launch so we didn't even get the boat wet
After we got the spare tire on we went home and after we backed the boat in, our new neighbor across the street asked us how we did. So we told him how we didn't get the boat in and blah bah blah.... Next thing I know he is telling us how much he sees us leave to go fishing and that he is going to go buy his fishing license so he can go with us. We knew him for 2 minutes. Then he tells us he is going to stand in the street with his fishing pole when he sees us with the boat. We talked to him and his girlfriend for about 20 minutes and the whole time he was saying how he was going to be fishing with us. Last night his girlfriend came over (who I just met the night before and said maybe 10 words to) and when my husband went to the door she walked right in and sat down!!! She was telling me how her boyfriend was happy to be going fishing with us on Thursday because "he gets paid" I thought it was funny because my husband is going to a concert tonight and his kids and I have plans to do things. I feel like we have a fishing stalker on our hands now! I don't want to be rude, but I don't want to have to hide everytime we leave to go fishing! Oh... And it's not like we own a great big Whaler or a nice bass boat. We have a 13 foot 1964 Montgomery wards catalog order Sea King that looks worse than it is! We can hardly fit 3 people on board after all of the gear is in! Thanks for listening to me
Sorry this is so long!!!!

I couldn't help laughing at this line " I feel like we have a fishing stalker on our hands now!"

lmao!!!

However, IMO, it's up to you two to set the precidence... tell them in the same way you worded it above; that the boat is really hold and you can hardly hold 2 people on it... but if HE wants to buy a new boat, you and your husband would be happy to go out and show him the ropes....

Just say sorry... The boats not big enough to handle that many people.... If your husband leaves by himself just say that he's picking up a family member to go fishing with..
As far as walking into your home, just say excuse me, we'll have to catch up with you later... You having a fight and want to be left alone. Sorry, all I could think of to say...

I like the idea of saying that you have another friend that you always go fishing with. Now I can be there by 5:30 everytime you're thinking of going out and if you make me a key, I can wait inside or should I just wait in the driveway? This is going to be a great summer...

BTW - Welcome to the board.

First welcome to the site....great first post!

I don't like the "boat only fits" idea at all....it's kinda like your making excuses. IMO you need to be firm and let this chump know that when you guys go fishing it's family time that is ment to enjoy the company of each other out on the lake without all the distractions. Sounds like these two are a real piece of work. If you don't deal with them in a firm manner now it will only get worse.

Hey, I was only trying to be friendly, I said I would bring beer. Glad I finally moved into a neighborhood with someone with a boat. So if you're busy Thursday, can we go tomorrow? I don't take up too much room.

sorry couldn't resist. Welcome.

Welcome to LSCN

I would say the same thing - that you two don't get much quality time together because of your schedules so when you do get the opportunity to be together, you choose to do so ALONE together on the pond.

If you're leaving by yourself with a boat, say you're picking up your partner to go find some fish for a tournament or something.

As far as coming in your home - you gotta lay down the rules right now before it gets out of hand - I'm sure there's a tactful way to tell them to give you and your significant other your "personal space"

Good Luck!

Great way of putting it pauligan.
I have a feeling that these people are not from around here. I mean like they moved from a different state and the way that they are acting is normal for over there. Maybe bacause they are not from around here they really are needy for friends. Yes, they do sound desperate and I would feel the same way but maybe if you invite them over for just a barbeque and get to know them better and tell them where you/they stand life will be easier. Lets face it they are your neighbors and they are not far so just make the best of it right away before you get understood and things get worse.

I agree with Rerun. Tell your new neighbors straight that you fish with who you want to, you'll invite who you wish, and right now he ain't on the list. People respect honesty and have no use for anyone who lies to them, even when it is done because it's uncomforatble to be truthful.

Being across the street makes it even easier to be totally honest with him - hell, that's not even like a neighbor.
