What would you do?

Let's say the boss came up to you and said over the next 3 years there will be no employee contribution and no increases in your health care. Company will cover all increases other than deductible. We will increase your paid holidays by one day. And your pay will increase no less than 1.5% in year 2 and 3% in year 3. No pay concessions. Pension plan fully funded at current rates.

What would you say????

The union I'm negotiating with said "Not enough!"

I left saying if we called channel 2 and told them there was a private company negotiating no health increases, more days off, and pay raises vs concessions they would probably hang up on me thinking it was a prank!

I would reply, [to employers] "Thank you for having the business sense to know what you can do for your employees and STAY in business".

I would say we don't put negotiations on an internent board

I would boot the Union out, close my doors, open under a new name, and rehire anyone that wanted to work for me under those conditions. LOL

I'd say that's par or even better than folks who don't work in a unionized line of work.

Perhaps the members should demand a vote. The whole idea is to protect and help the workers? But what protects you from the union?
Stodge, that's much better than the average non union shop right now. Let's see, this has been my last year -

Reduction in pay = 15% hourly
Reduction in hours = 30%
Total reduction in average yearly pay (avg of last 5 yrs) = -$40k
Loss of dental insurance
Loss of 401K employer match
Increases in all co-pays, deductibles, and less authorized services for med insurance
All paid vacation days = Revoked till further notice and no payment for the unused from last year
No sick days

and on, and on, and on..........

Quite a few of my friends at other shops are going thru similar experiences.....

So yeah, I think if that deal were in front of me, I would take it!!! Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth!!

(and they wonder why they can't find work...... I have a lot of union friends, but I really don't understand the mentality - and I come from a union family!!)

Edit- Just so nobody jumps on me - I am not dogging the union members, I know there are a lot of them on here, and as said, a lot of my friends are union. I guess if I was a union member, I would be demanding more and more too. I just think they have grown into a very different animal than when they were created- not for the better....

Go the other way. Tell them that deal is off the table and they will now be getting a 5% pay cut. Employee contribution to the health care plan will raise to 50% of cost. Pay increases in out years will be solely merit-based.

They should have taken the deal. It's a great offer considering the current state of the economy. The labor market isn't what it once was, there's an oversupply of qualified labor and the price has come down. It sucks for the workers, but it is what it is. Work hard and the economy will get better, and pay will improve.

Beatings will continue until morale improves!

Yep record high (almost) unemployment or a better contract than you currently have.

Choose wisely....
I'd have to grab it and run. That's better than the last 2 contracts we had and we're UAW. I should say was UAW. the company came to the unions that were involved at their 6 different plants, asked for concessions for 2 years and got it from 5 of the 6 plants. Ours they ended up offering the same pay as we had but higher co-pays, and less excused days off. ( absent days, not vacation days.) At 20 years I got 5 weeks vacation. The union reps didn't wan to present it so the company sent us letters and we closed 6 months late. moved work to plants that accepted.
I voted to take the 3rd and 4th ofers before someone jumps down my throat., Now Marvin and I talk every 2 weeks.

0 concessions. No BS.

And plenty of people post on here saying what a holes private companies are these days by taking things away. Just wanted to show that some of us are trying to do what we can.
Now I never said my company was a holes!!! I have taken all of it in stride, because it is a great place to work, and I believe in the company.

When things get better, the old man will take care of us!! He is really good for that.

We are just all taking our share of the beatings right now, and it hurts for sure, but in the big picture - at least I have a job - at a great company, doing what I enjoy!!

This economy has beaten a lot of us up, it just seems as if the unions don't feel they have to participate in the sacrifice!!
