Where are all the bass?

This is my first post, but I have been a member of the LSCN.Net for a year or so. I don't live near the lake, but my buddies & I try to make a few trips out there each year.

Believe it or not, Friday (7/24) was our first opportunity this year. We launched around 6:30 AM on the Clinton River, and slowly made our way torwards the mile roads. Unfortunately, we did not find too much action.

We caught a few bass on tubes here and there, and I got a few perch and rock bass bouncing night crawlers off the bottom, but nothing to brag about ... until we were about to leave. About 2:30, my buddy Kurt hooked this 5 & 1/2 LB smally on a leach jig, in 8FOW off Metro Beach. It's not the best picture, but man WHAT a FIGHT!

Between the two of us, we ended up with just 3 smallmouth, a couple of largemouths, and few perch and Rock bass. Not great, but not a bad day to spend the day.

Try drop shopping along the shipping channel in 17 FOW. Try goby type baits, and get ready to have fun. Good luck!
1,000's died this spring. Just a shame.

They are still around...There are alot of big sacks still being caught on LSC...The Stren winner spent most of his time fishing LSC and I believe he pulled 3 20lb bags out of there......Fishing is not always as easy as it seems during the C and R season...The fish are spread out, and you have to keep moving and try your best to cover some water....
The BFL will be the first week of August...Those weights should be a good indicator on how the bass are doing...Hopefully I have around 20lbs...(LOL)
I caught 18.5 lbs and won my club tournament a couple of weeks ago...Not a huge bag, but respectable and I will take it any day of the week...The BASS state fish off fished tough, but the pressure on the water has been intense....
Have fun, try some new things and keep on moving and eventually you will hit pay dirt....

I launched boat number 157 on the second day of the Stren. Easily 130 of the boats ahead of me went north to St. Clair. The lake is by no means "dead" but it's not super easy finding quality fish either. It took me the better part of three weeks of solid fishing to find the weedbed I fished in the tournament. It gave up nearly 37lbs on the first day and just over 25lbs on the second day for me and my partners.

Like motocross said, keep moving and trying new things and you'll find them. Or just follow Chip Harrison the next time he's here
. (j/k!!)

I think Chip Harrison does stuff with those crankbaits that us mere mortals aren't capable of.......

He was on some of the same water that I was...(Not for long), but I think he was working the same type of water and he works some type of magic to get those fish to jump on those cranks....Like I said in another post I sure would like to spend an afternoon with him throwing crankbaits...
