QUOTE(damn yankee @ Apr 12 2004, 04:33 PM)I didn't know Yamaha made a 4.3 liter. Are you talking outboard or inboard or I/O?
Its a 4.3l V6 inboard. Its in a 1993 20ft Rinker.
A friend wants to buy it, he asked me what I think about it, I dont know the 4.3l Yamaha eitherm so I thought lets ask the experts here

Guess repair costs ( if some day needed ) would be higher than with a Mercr. since the Yamaha isnt common.

Only thing I'd be worried about is repairs and parts for it. Especially the outdrive parts.

I had the option for a Yamaha on my baja in '92. I opted for the Merc. After doing a bit of research at the time, they were just too rare for my comfort level.

Now, doing research on drives for customers, I would put their quality and reliability level above Mercruiser, but they take more power to turn. The same boat Yamaha will run about 3-4 mph slower than a Merc. Although better quality, Yamaha out drive parts and service are not so easy to come by and are expensive. Again, they are too rare for my comfort level.
