Thats what I was kinda thinking, but I thought I read/heard somewhere that you could find out.

I found the boat.

I saw a few subscription sites that are supposed to be able to do lookups. Nothing for free on the net though.

I definately wouldnt want any Joe Schmoe looking up my MC numbers and finding out all of my information!!!

That means a criminal could get MC numbers, go to the SOS and say "this boat is in danger and I need to contact the owner" , find out the guys name, where he lives and since he can afford a xx' Searay, rob him.

Definately not cool.

For Pete's sake people, I'm talking about a 9' Boston Whaler that floated down my canal a couple weeks ago. I lifted it out and its sitting on my dock. I've tried to find the owners but I haven't had any luck. It has MC numbers on it so I was going to try that route. And maybe, just maybe if I find out they have a huge house and lots of money I'll rob them.

I know that you used to be able to go to the secretary of state in Lansing and ask for the "commercial look up bureau". They would charge you $7 on your credit card and get you a response within 5 days.

I do not know if they have changed their policy in the last 10 years on that or not. Technically, it is public information, and they charge a fee to pay for their time to look it up. Thats how commercial companies get ownership info on vehicle types and owners addresses to send you junk mail.

Let us know if that still applies or not. Inquiring minds want to know....

What am I saying, if a Boston Whaler floated up to my seawall, I'd have already repainted it and re-serial numbered it

If thats the case then you should be able to post the fact that you found a boat and are looking for the owner. I'm sure sooner or later someone will realize its missing and start asking around. Pretty big group of people here someone will hear something.

Describe the boat and ask that the rightful owner produce a mich. reg. for it. Otherwise I might be interested in aquiring a new boat...

I called the Macomb Marine Division and spoke to a deputy. He's going to look into the MC numbers and get back with me. I had to give him my name, address, etc.

I'm just a nosy SOB is all.

I know, I was just being a smart @$$ back.

Well, I tried the normal route of asking around and talking to neighbors but no luck so now I'm trying other avenues.

It's a cool little boat that will be perfect for my wife and daughter to cruise the canals in.

Our floating dock/pad floated away when the ice melted. I keep on thinking I see it sitting over at S. River and the Venetian canal, because there is one floating upside down over there... So if anybody sees a 3'x3' or so floating pad (the kind with the plastic barrel underneath and 2x4's as the platform) that isnt theirs let me know
